Tryon takes the equestrian stage

An area that has long attracted equestrian enthusiasts, Tryon and the surrounding Polk County area of North Carolina have big plans to become one of the most significant equestrian lifestyle destinations in the world.

Fueled by the vision of Mark Bellissimo, managing partner of Tryon Equestrian Partners, along with the collaboration of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, a brand known for its luxury golf resorts, the new Tryon Resort will feature a spectacular equestrian center, two luxury hotels, a nature-inspired destination spa, retail shops, fine dining venues and an Arnold Palmer Signature Design golf course.

Planned to open in 2016, the first hotel will be situated on the property’s highest point which takes advantage of the commanding views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. The property will also include miles of bridle paths for training and trail rides.

“There is an abundance of agriculture and wineries in the area surrounding the resort, and our aim is to utilize as much local produce and influences as possible,” Prem Devadas, president of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, says of the new the restaurants planned for the resort. “We are excited to try to create a distinct type of cuisine that currently does not exist. The hotel on the bluff will feature comfortable dining and an expansive bar, all with spectacular views of the mountains and equestrian show grounds. It will be a true gathering place for the community and resort guests.”

The crowning glory of the 1,400-acre showground is the Tryon International Equestrian Center which opened earlier this summer and features five riding arenas and 500 permanent stalls. To date, the center has already hosted a number of international-level equestrian competitions and sanctioned events, including the prestigious Tryon Horse Show, one of the oldest horse shows in the country.
